OUR PHILOSOPHY

Our philosophy is supported by a number of theorists including Erikson, Vygotsky and Piaget who in combination, espoused ideas that young children need time to learn and explore, to build on previous skills as they play and that children move through a series of stages as they grow and learn.

Our image of the child:

We are committed to put “Children First”. We recognise that each child is a unique and capable individual who has his/her own interests, talents, skills and ideas to nurture and develop. We recognise the importance of respectful and positive relationships children have with themselves and with the educators.

Children’s understandings are constructed as they interact with the natural and constructed worlds, and make meaning of these experiences. Children develop confidence and self-esteem in our safe, nurturing and supportive environment.

Partnerships with families and local community:

Fostering partnerships with both families and the community and families are key to Watch You Learn. We value two-way relationships with families via our dedicated early childhood team. This allows us to meet each child’s needs, through an understanding of their unique situation. For our service, children are our seeds, families are our water, the community is the sun and educators are our farmers who combine to assist the plant grow.

We value and recognise family and community input. We work in partnerships with our local community and stakeholders in the best interests of the children. We provide families with information about the children’s learning and their development.

We value any feedback or concern raised by the families and/or the community about , this may include any issue or concerns in any aspect of our service operations. Any complaints will be handled timely, privately and professionally.

Diversity, social justice and equity:

We acknowledge the diversity of the community and are inclusive of all children, family groupies and educators. With the guidance of adults, children will develop an understanding and respect for different abilities, interests and ways of being as they interact and learn. We are committed to provide opportunities for children to learn about similarities, differences and the interdependence, as well as how we can learn to live together. We aim to promote positivity in relation to diversity and equality.

Curriculum and practice:

We believe in play-based learning. Our curriculum is child centred and underpins the EYLF principals, practices and outcomes. Our curriculum has eight areas of focus -– We practice the Watch You Learn curriculum which underpins the EYLF principles. The Curriculum has seven areas – Watch Us Be Healthy and Well, Watch Us Be Social, Watch Us Be Creative, Watch Us Be School Ready, Watch Us Develop Learning Foundations, Watch Us Be Sustainable, and Watch Us Explore Technology and Watch Us Be Inclusive & Respectful. Each child will be an active participant in our curriculum.

Sustainable practice:

We believe children need to develop an awareness of the natural world and their connection with it. We believe in embedding sustainable practices through role modelling and child participation. We provide children with opportunities to explore and understand the principles of sustainable living and the interconnectedness of all living creatures.

Our Team:

We believe every educator and staff member is a valued resource. We provide educators the opportunities to grow and enhance their professional knowledge. We aim to create an environment where all educators strive to achieve best practice through innovation, professional collaboration, demonstrating initiative and responsiveness to the needs of children in the curriculum, programs, procedures, planning and evaluation.

Our unique campus:

Our purpose-built environment is innovative in its design, allowing children the freedom to express themselves and explore their interests. We provide a safe, clean and healthy environment that supports children’s wellbeing. Healthy responsive practices are embedded in daily operations and routines to ensure this occurs for each child.
